soldats de couleur au sein du 3 ème US cavalry?

Je suis tombée récemment sur une splendide photo de reenactors ( Larry McCalley et HL Williams) sur le site Newsela.com



Ce qui m'a le plus frappé dans cette photo, c'est le fait que les reenactors ont poussé le souci du détail jusqu'à trouver des chevaux borgnes comme montures ( il est vrai que les premières unités de cavalerie de couleur récupéraient les chevaux dont personne ne voulait, borgnes, boiteux et autres emphysémateux).....

Dans la légende il est spécifié que ces hommes représentent des cavaliers du 3ème colored cavalry. Je dois avouer que cela m'a fait tiquer, je pensais que le 3ème de cavalerie ( si mes sources sont bonnes, cette unité est issue de mounted riflemen et de soldats de métier)  n'avait pas de soldats de couleur... Ou bien la mention colored ajouté désigne t'il une toute autre unité de cavalerie?....
